Geek Or Not Geek? You Decide

At the following link you will find a man proclaiming that not all ramblers are tweed wearing geeks who are scared of technology (and forced to grow a beard at an early age by men who worship hiking boots and refuse to drink out of anything that is not metal and forged by the hands of an ancient rambling blacksmith). I personally can’t offer an opinion on the geek thing either way, since I have never been rambling and certainly never intend to round my way (East Anglia isn’t exactly a ramblers paradise. The nearest hill is about a hundred miles away at least and isn’t that what rambling is all about? Or am I getting confused? But try Cornwall - the Hotels in Looe are nice.) That said, I did run in to a bearded rambler a few weeks ago up north and he had a GPS thing on his phone which was enabling him to see where the trail he was on lead to, which was cool. He could also look up styles of beards he might like to have in the future, which enabled him something to think about while slogging up hills. Here’s the link if you fancy going rambling and are wondering what technology can do for you: http://www.enigingeek.com/2010/08/15/walk-the-talk-with-podcasts/ And the writer of the aforementioned article is right, of course. Mobile technology has made things that were once impossible – like driving to the seaside as a family and not having a massive argument when dad gets completely lost – an every day thing. Now, you can find out where you are going pretty much anywhere on earth. Which means that more and more people are getting out and about (and less families are arguing with awful consequences, of course).
